Dr. David Leisawitz

Dr. David Leisawitz is NASA Study Scientist for the Origins Space Telescope US decadal mission concept study and Chief of the Science Proposal Support Office at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center. Previously, he was Principal Investigator on the Space Infrared Interferometric Telescope (SPIRIT) mission concept study and served as the NASA Goddard study lead for the Submillimeter Probe of the Evolution of Cosmic Structure (SPECS). He is Principal Investigator of the “Wide-field Imaging Interferometry” project. Dr. Leisawitz served as Mission Scientist for the Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer (WISE) and as Deputy Project Scientist for the Cosmic Background Explorer (COBE). During the past two decades, he has organized and participated in a number of mission planning community workshops in the US and Europe. Throughout his career Dr. Leisawitz has engaged in mentoring, and he has occasionally dabbled in educational activities, most notably the Multiwavelength Milky Way project.
